We are Singapore’s first monthly live story telling event that aims to give people a platform to share their lived experiences with others in an open and inclusive environment.

Each month, we set a theme, and put out a call for interested storytellers to share their real-life experiences with others based on that month’s theme.

We believe that everyone has a story to tell, so the format of our story slams encourages the open participation of people with no prior experience. Our eventual hope is that you will come and tell your story, then continue exploring that raw and authentic side of yourself through the power of the spoken art form.

Theme of the Night: Shiver

-----------------

WIKIPEDIA: Shivering (also called shuddering) is a bodily function in response to early hypothermia or just feeling cold in warm-blooded animals. When the core body temperature drops, the shivering reflex is triggered to maintain homeostasis. Skeletal muscles begin to shake in small movements, creating warmth by expending energy.

We know it as a natural reflex caused by an external stimulus. A reaction to some provocation. But what exactly makes you shiver?

It could be about the time you forgot to bring your jacket to a cinema in Singapore, and you shivered so much your date lent you their jacket - and that made sparks fly between you. Or could be about how Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) videos just make you feel so good that you can't sleep without listening to one.

Or maybe you have a ghost story to tell... Which is what we're kinda looking forward to hearing about, to be honest. But surely there can't be THAT many ghost stories, right? =P (Surprise us, folks!)

Whatever it is, WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!

Theme of the Night: Sordid
Unofficial Rating - R21! (Definitely leave the kids at home)

-----------------

From the Oxford Dictionary

Sordid (/ˈsɔːdɪd/) - (1) Involving immoral or dishonourable actions and motives; arousing moral distaste and contempt. (2) Dirty or squalid.

Origins of the word - Late Middle English (as a medical term in the sense ‘purulent’): from French sordide or Latin sordidus, from sordere ‘be dirty’. The current senses date from the early 17th century.

This November, we're going to show off our distasteful side. We're gonna get down and dirty, and you're more than welcome to join us!

That's right folks, our annual themed session about SEX is here again! (You probably don't need any prompting this month to discuss the topic!)

But this time, we're also going to add a little twist... We will welcome story pitches that go beyond just sex, but are still related to the theme at hand. We will leave the interpretation up to you!

Just to be clear, we welcome any and all stories related to sex (we love it after all!), but do keep in mind, as always, the Golden Rule: Don't be an asshole!

For example, if you'd like to share a story about your experience with a sex worker, do remember that sex workers have the right to be respected and acknowledged. Please don't demean them or treat them like objects. (Check out http://theprojectx.org/ to learn more!)

Also, just because this session is about sex, we want to emphasise that the stories at this session should still show respect to others - just like any other slam! Don't use hurtful epithets or insults to describe individuals or groups of people!

If you have any questions about your story, just feel free to check in with us! =D
